Soccer Mom? Me???

Okay, so I have never really wanted to be a soccer mom--mainly because I can't do the minivan thing. Cedie played soccer for one season when she was about seven, but other than that I have been able to avoid the mandatory soccer for kids law. Maybe it's because I have been worn down by too many children, or maybe a temporary loss of sanity and/or reason, but Courtney was able to talk me into signing her up for AYSO soccer this past spring. I figured it wouldn't be too bad, and that it was only one child in soccer. Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago--time for Cedie to go to high school. I learned from personal experience that it is important to be involved in extracurricular activities (besides a boyfriend) in high school, so we told Cedie that she had to choose an activity. I was pushing for cross country, but she chose soccer--because she didn't want to run that much. (I really wonder if she had ever seen a soccer game before--did she realize that they run the whole time !?!) She tells me that she had 78 minutes of straight conditioning the other day! She showed up the morning of tryouts, not knowing that the other girls had already been practicing for a month, and managed to make the JV team. She is loving it--she loves that it is a "full contact sport" and she likes being a defender because the "refs are not looking for contact as much on the backfield." Courtney is no less competitive--she saw her friend at a scrimmage and walked up to her and said "We're going to beat you!" They both crack me up. Anyway, I'm posting a couple of pics of the soccer girls in the Fallon Labor Day parade. Courtney never even realized that I took her picture--she's the blonde in the maroon jersey. At least we did get her to look in our general direction. Cedie is actually smiling--notice her pretty long hair that she got for her B-day. We'll be at games most of the day tomorrow!
